Ballet

Suggested ages: 6 and older
The language of ballet as an art form, with emphasis on development of body alignment, technical steps, terminology and concepts of ballet aesthetics. All students progress from technical ballet barre work to center work. Jetes, pirouettes and petit allegro steps are taught in all classes. Intermediate and advanced students work more intensely on adagio and allegro.

Ballet Technique

A purely technical ballet class with mostly barre work, practiced with repetition to master ballet skills and to shape and strengthen the body for performance. This class builds endurance and stamina, and it is recommended that it be combined with an additional ballet or technique class. Open to intermediate and advanced students. This class does not perform a dance in the recital.

Pointe

Offered to students eleven years or older, who have a  minimum of 3-4 years of classical ballet training. Requires the approval of the director
Pointe is a continuation of the ballet class for the advanced student. Students on pointe are required to take at least two additional ballet technique classes per week.

hip hop street dance classes all levels

Hip Hop

Suggested ages: 8 and older
Style, Technique and vocabulary in the idiom of jazz dance are implemented, since jazz is a dance form that changes over time. Body alignment, isolation and stretching exercises all serve to increase the student's range of movement. Emphasis is placed on technical steps, coordination of arms and legs, projection, total body movement and dance combinations. Music selection is contemporary, upbeat and popular.

tap dance classes all levels

Tap

Suggested ages: 8 and older
A progression of foot and leg movement, including the shuffle, buffalo, time-step, essence, wing, falling off the log, pullback, grab-off, hell clip, etc. Arm movement is coordinated with the foot movement as well. This class treats the tap shoe like a percussive musical instrument to develop a keen sense of rhythm in the student. Intermediate and advanced students will be prepared for tapping in productions of Broadway musicals.

modern dance classes all levels

Modern

Suggested ages: 11 and older
A mostly technical and partly improvisational class in which students study space, time and energy, and discover the effect of these elements on movement. Students will work on body placement and move in the basics of modern dance technique in the styles of such American modern-dance pioneers as Martha Graham, Alvin Ailey, Lester Horton, Doris Humphrey and Jose Limon. The dancer's ability to analyze dance for choreographic skills will be enhanced. This class is available to students who study ballet and are recommended to the program.

Lyrical

Suggested ages: 9 and older
An expressive form of dance that incorporates a combination of jazz, ballet, and modern. Dancers will learn the basic principles of modern dance, and will also study how to express the lyrics of the music through movement.

Young Children

Sugar-n-Spice I, II

Suggested ages: 3-5
An introduction to dance with an emphasis on how uniquely and wonderfully each child moves! This one and/or two-year program is designed to introduce students to the classical format and discipline of the ballet class while preserving the student´s natural creative dance abilities. Creative movement techniques are used to strengthen children mentally and physically and to develop skills of coordination for structured movement. Pre-ballet techniques are used to develop basic body alignment, coordination, strength and vocabulary. Basic tap technique is taught towards the end of each Sugar-n-Spice II class to heighten the student´s sensitivity to sound and rhythm and to help develop motor skills, specifically leg, foot and arm coordination.

Kinderdance

Suggested ages: Kindergarten
A combination class of pre-ballet and jazz. This class is designed for those students who are entering kindergarten.

Ballet / Jazz Combination Program

Suggested ages: 1st grade and 2nd grade
A class in which the students learn two dance disciplines - ballet and jazz in a 1½ or 2 hour class. Designed to develop the students in their early years of dance training to be well-rounded and versatile. A cross-over of vocabulary and technique exists from one style of dance to another. The students will discover how each dance form is similar to and different from the others as they develop dance skills. They will perform one recital dance.
